| Transporting Patients at End of Life |
Patients in the last weeks and months of life require the usual range of transport services e.g. outpatient visits, treatments,
admissions to and discharges from hospital/hospice. The nature of their physical condition may mean that extra
attention is needed to provide comfort during the journey.
Patients who choose to move or have a clinical need to be moved to an alternative place of care in the last hours/days
of life have additional requirements. Transport is often needed at short notice and frequently involves A&E crews and vehicles.
As at January 2012, work is on-going to consider alternative transport options for
people in the last days of life.
We are also inviting staff to report any problems with booking urgent transport,
using this issues log. Issues logs will be downloaded each month and shared with the service commissioner(s).
