  The audit will:
  • describe provision of and access to breast reconstruction in England and Wales
  • evaluate current clinical practice in mastectomy and breast reconstruction
  • measure outcomes following mastectomy with or without reconstruction
  • assess the quality of information provided to women undergoing mastectomy and their satisfaction with the reconstructive choices made.

  • To review the timeliness of patients being informed their diagnosis of breast cancer in order to determine any possible variation across the Network.
  • To review the % of all referrals receiving radiology results on the day of their first visit to clinic in order to determine any possible variation across the Network.
  • To review the timeliness of deciding the adjuvant treatment plan following surgery in order to determine any possible variation across the Network.
  • To provide a baseline position against which future audits can be compared.
  • To provide evidence for the current guidelines and introduce new ones agreed by the Group in the light of current practice and evidence from the literature.
  • The results will be presented by each MDT to the YCN Breast Network Site Specific Group which will suggest possible changes in practice.

  • To fully investigate those patients with missing key tumour data at the time of first therapeutic MDT to understand reasons why and identify improvements that could be made.
