Survivorship - 5 Key Shifts
Moving On Project 2009/10
In September 2008 a National research study commissioned by Macmillan Cancer Support revealed that there are currently estimated to be 2 million people living with or beyond cancer. The report suggests that these figures are likely to have doubled by the year 2020. The report also suggests that the needs of many of these 'survivors' are not being met.

The Moving On project explored with current survivors what support services are available to patients to help them move on with their life after cancer or whilst living with the disease and what support services they and/or their carer(s) would like to see made available to them.

During the project a questionnaire was developed to help explore what support services patients have accessed, what they would like to see made available and how and where they would like to access information on support services.

We then held focus groups with patients and / or their carer(s) to explore in more depth patient and carers support needs.

Finally we ran and evaluated a series of 5 invitation workshops to cover the Yorkshire Cancer Network area designed to inform and enable cancer patients and to sign post them to potential areas where they could access further help and support. For each of the 5 workshops a Moving On Booklet was produced which contained Local, Regional and National information regarding where to get further help and support.

Please see the full reports below for each stage of the project.
